Discussion Boards: From Student's Perspective

Let me be clear on one thing: I do not like discussion boards. But as a student who has taken over eighty hours of online courses, I know they are a necessary evil. Although online ultimately means self-motivated and sometimes self-taught, it’s nice to know there really is an instructor at the head of the class taking part, directing, and contributing to the course.

Conference Review: Sloan-C International Conference on Online Learning AND MoodleMoot

The Sloan-C Foundation has presented the Sloan-C International Conference on Online Learning for 15th years. For at least the past 8, the Sloan-C conference has been held in Orlando, FL; this year at the Caribe Royale. You've heard of a wedding tour--an extended amount of time on which a newlywed couple tours an area for their honeymoon. Well, apparently, I've been on the conference tour; I managed to fit Sloan-C and the concurrent MoodleMoot into my October, and I am glad I did. The conference was a great one. MoodleMoot was pretty good, too.

I can't believe it is time for another newsletter. An entire year has passed so quickly. Every quarter, I start stressing about how many submissions I'll receive for an issue, whether anyone is actually reading the thing—and then I'll start getting all sorts of comments and suggestions from you. Your correspondence is such a comfort, so please keep sending it!!
