Facilitating the Development of a Distance Education Program Within any organization the one thing that remains constant is change and the need for change. Institutions and individuals must remain adaptable or their survival will never be guaranteed (Learning and Teaching Support Network, 2003). Educational institutions are a prime example of a new paradigm being implemented in the form of distance education. It is becoming a go-to strategy with the sole purpose of creating greater student opportunities; thus educators have an inherent need to prepare for that change (Hoehn & Redline, 2005). Survey Results: The Electronic Campus To the Electronic Campus survey, only three people responded. Two were not members of SREB's Electronic Campus and one was. The official at SAU Tech, the only member participating, did not have access to the Electronic Campus enrollment nor did she have any problems with the program. Survey Results: Higher Ed DE Coordinator Contacts Only eight people responded to the DE Coordinator Contacts. Higher ed is at a distinct disadvantage in that distance education is not centrally coordinated. I knew the communication between higher ed DE administrators was limited, but until I attended the ARDLA conference and visited with Cathi Swan, K-12 DL Coordinator for the state of Arkansas, I had no idea to what extent. 2009 ARDLA Conference Overview
2009 ADRLA Conference: Award Winners
The Outstanding Distance Education Program award went to the Arkansas Department of Education Distance Learning Center. As the Outstanding Distance Education Program, the Arkansas Department of Education Distance Learning Center was a distance education program whose staff has demonstrated leadership and replicable innovation in several areas such as ensuring quality instruction, efficient course development, instituting effective retention strategies, promotion, and providing outstanding student services and faculty professional development.
From the
ARDLA President...
From the
Editor... Can I confess something to you? Although I was on the board as Secretary, I was not particularly thrilled about attending ARLDA 2009. Notwithstanding the hoards of work I left seething in my office nor the NCA and ADHE information on which I was woefully behind, the previous 2 or 3 ARLDA conferences I had attended were geared much more toward K-12 and CVN, neither of which, as a higher ed employee, I had a lot to do with. As I started helping with the conference planning, a little voice in the back of my mind kept saying, "What kind of information will be at ARDLA to help me?" |
2009 ARDLA Conference Evaluation The 2009 ARDLA Conference, Global Connections: Arkansas Without Boundaries, was held September 22-24 at the Clarion Inn in Hot Springs.
If you attended the conference, please complete the conference evaluation. 2010 ARDLA Conference The 2010 ARDLA Conference will be held September 21-23, location to be announced later. We hope you will make plans to attend! ARDLA Board Minutes Just in case you were ever curious about what happens in board meetings, the 2009 board minutes are posted to the ARDLA website.
